Zoom announced plans to lift the default forty-minute free video call limit for Thanksgiving Day to make it easier for families to spend time virtually on vacation in the US. The 40-minute limit for Zoom meetings will be lifted from midnight on Thanksgiving Day (November 26) through 6 a.m. ET (4:30 p.m. IST) on November 27.
The 40-minute limit for Zoom will be lifted worldwide, the company announced in a announcement on twitter. Temporary relaxation is being introduced for Thanksgiving “so your family gatherings are not interrupted,” the post says. The forty minute time limit was a major limitation on the platform throughout the coronavirus pandemic, forcing teams to restart calls after the allotted time.
Many of Zoom’s competitors have imposed similar restrictions, including Google Meet (60-minute limit) and all providers charge additional fees for plans for companies that lift the limit and increase the number of attendees allowed.
Zoom instantly became famous in the early days of the COVID-18 pandemic. The company says it now has nearly 300 million users as offices around the world have asked their employees to work from home to limit exposure to the coronavirus. The company was recently ordered by regulators to strengthen its security in a proposed resolution of allegations that the video conferencing service had misled users about the level of security for meetings.
