Windows 10 Free Upgrade Still Works for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 Users: Report

The free upgrade program for Windows 10, which should last a year, is reportedly still available to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. Customers with older Windows operating systems can go to the official Windows 10 download page and get the free tool to upgrade to Windows 10. However, according to a report, users must have an original copy of the older operating system that they want to upgrade from. In addition, a suspected Microsoft employee announced that the original free upgrade to an annual plan was just a marketing gimmick.

Windows 10 was introduced back in 2015. At the time, Microsoft stated that users of older Windows operating systems could upgrade to the latest version for free for one year. But 4 years later, Windows 10 is still available as a free upgrade for Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 users with a real license checked from Windows Latest. To upgrade to Windows 10 for free after making sure you are running a genuine version of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, contact the official Download page and follow these steps:

1. Go to the Windows 10 download page and click ‘Download the tool now‘.
2. Open the Media Creation Tool and select ‘Update this PC now‘.
3. You have to click on ‘Accept‘Button to agree to the terms and conditions.
4. Choose the upgrade option where you will keep your files and information.
5. Follow the steps to complete the installation.
6. Once you are connected to the internet, go to Windows Update > activation.
7. Click on the ‘activate‘if necessary and your PC will be activated with a real license.
8. You can also enter your Windows 7 product key here.

Another older one Reddit Post From last year by a self-proclaimed Microsoft employee, it says, “The whole ‘free’ upgrade for a year was a marketing fluff.” The reason for this, as mentioned in the post, was that upgrade statistics were more valuable to Microsoft than license revenue. The Reddit user also states that if you install Windows 10 as a new operating system, you will lose your free upgrade.
