WhatsApp is testing the “Join Missed Calls” and “Biometric Lock” features reportedly discovered in beta version 18.104.22.168. The Join Missed Calls feature allows users to join an ongoing call halfway if they did not initially answer the call. The “Biometric Lock” function has been improved and offers additional authentication options in addition to the fingerprint. These two features are reportedly under development and will find their way to the app in a future update.
According to a report From WABetaInfo, a release that tracks WhatsApp features but is not officially affiliated with the messaging service, WhatsApp is testing two new features as seen in the latest beta update version 22.214.171.124. One of the features – Join Missed Calls – is to allow users to join a group call halfway if they initially miss it. Of course, the call has yet to be resumed and this feature allows users to get on quickly. According to the screenshot released by WABetaInfo, the user is presented with the options “Ignore” and “Join”.
Regarding biometric lock, WhatsApp reportedly adds other ways to authenticate a user in addition to fingerprint scanning. From now on, only “fingerprint lock” is available in WhatsApp’s privacy settings. However, this option appears to be changed to “Biometric Lock” as it includes authentication with face unlock or other unique identifiers in addition to fingerprint. Users can still choose when to automatically block WhatsApp.
As of now it is unclear when these new functions will be included in the stable version of the app. It should be noted that they are under development and not yet available to users of the beta build. WABetaInfo has released a preview of the currently disabled features that are expected to show up in a future build.
Recently, a beta update with version 2.2043.7 is said to contain support for voice and video calls for the web / desktop client of the messaging app. Although this feature is already available for Android and iOS apps, WhatsApp Web does not yet support it. And just like the Connect Missed Calls feature and Biometric Lock feature, it’s unclear when it will get public.
