Vi (Vodafone Idea) is set to introduce Wi-Fi calling service

Vi (Vodafone Idea) is launching its expected Wi-Fi calling service in India, according to a report. The new service should initially be limited to a few circles. The operator has been testing its Wi-Fi calling service for some time. In addition to the reported introduction of Wi-Fi calling, Vi brought the new Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 Prepaid Top-Up Plans to Select Circles. The new additions are listed as combination plans on the telecommunications operator’s website.

According to a report Telecom Talk confirmed that Vi was starting Wi-Fi calls by a customer service representative when responding to a user query on Twitter. The official reportedly sent a message to the user that the service covers Maharashtra and Goa counties as well as Kolkata. The rollout started on Tuesday, according to the telecommunications blog.

Gadgets 360 asked Vi for clarity on the rollout and will update this area when the operator replies.

Past reports suggest Vi has been testing its Wi-Fi calling service for some time. The company has apparently started testing the service along with Airtel and Jio, but while the other two networks have it set up, Vi has not yet revealed its rollout details.

The new service allows users to switch to Wi-Fi calling when they are in a congested area. A software update may be required on the user’s handset to add support for voice calling over WiFi.

New Vi charging plans

In addition to the new service rollout, Vi brought the Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 prepaid top-up plans, as reported from OnlyTech. The new plans are originally listed on the website for the counties of Gujarat and Maharashtra and Goa.

While the Rs. 59 Vi plan brings in 30 minutes of voice calling, the Rs. 65 plan brings in Rs. 52 talk time and 100MB of data. Both are listed as combination plans and are available with a service validity of 28 days.

Vi had Rs. 59 and Rs. 65 prepaid plans earlier too, but with a clear list of benefits and validity.
