The Google Chrome extension brings back old G Suite icons

With a new Google Chrome extension, the new Google Workspace icons can be converted to their old G Suite versions. Google introduced new icons for all productivity apps when G Suite was renamed Google Workspace. Gmail, Drive, Maps, Home, Calendar and Meet – all iconic logos have had a new look and a confusingly similar color scheme. It is Google’s job to homogenize everything under one app for single mothers. But if you’re not a fan of the changes, there is a way to revert to the old icons. A new Google Chrome extension can do the trick. The icons on the app pages won’t change, but it definitely makes it easier to differentiate between the Gmail tab and the Documents tab in the Chrome browser.

The new extension The name “Restore old Google icons”, developed by product designer Claudio Postinghel, was published on November 2nd. However, the first version is far from perfect. The green Google Sheets icon or instance becomes the blue Google Notes icon. The yellow symbol of Goole Slides experiences the same fate.

Postinghel said on the support page of the Chrome web store it was working on a new version to fix the two icons. Another user, who asked if the extension is available in other browsers, said that the extension will soon be rolled out for Mozilla Firefox, followed by support for Apple’s Safari and Microsoft Edge. Re-branding apps with new icons isn’t the only thing Google tinkered with, however. The company has also announced that it will soon switch off all Chrome apps accessible through the Chrome webshop.

The migration has begun, and the Google Keep Chrome app will be released no later than the fall. Google said it will End support for the app next February. The notification about migrating from a single app to a web-based (hosted) app can be found on the Google Keep app home page. Offline access to Notes is still available in the Google Keep mobile app. It is no longer available in the desktop app. Next year’s migration will also end the Keeps lock screen integration.
