Tata Sky continues to lead with a market share of over 32 percent: TRAI

Tata Sky has maintained its market leadership for four quarters in a row, announced the DTH operator. Citing data from India’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRAI), Tata Sky announced that it had a 32.09 percent market share for the quarter ended June 30th. The operator has also partnered with over-the-top (OTT) platform SonyLIV to offer Tata Sky Binge customers on-demand shows, films and sports content. Tata Sky Binge already offers content from nine OTT platforms, including Disney + Hotstar, Eros Now, Hungama Play and Zee5.

The data in TRAI’s most recent report on Indian telecommunications services performance indicators, released by Tata Sky in a press release, shows the operator’s market share rose nearly 0.5 percent in the April-June 2020 quarter from 31.61 percent in July rose in the September quarter last year.

Tata Sky reported that it has added about 7.5 lakh subscribers in the past four quarters. However, if we look at quarter-on-quarter performance using the TRAI data provided, the operator has lost 0.24 percent since the previous quarter ended March 31.

“We remain the No. 1 DTH and pay TV platform and have expanded our lead over our closest competitor. It is encouraging to see the entire DTH sector maintaining its resilience this quarter, “said a Tata Sky spokesman.

After Tata Sky at the top, Dish TV and D2h took second place together, while Airtel was third and Sun Direct was fourth according to TRAI data.

At the end of June, the TRAI data shared by Tata Sky showed that Dish TV and D2h had a market share of 28.67 percent, Airtel 23.83 percent and Sun Direct 15.41 percent.

In addition to announcing its market share growth, Tata Sky has also partnered with SonyLIV to deliver more than 1,000 hours of content to the Tata Sky Binge service accessible through the Amazon Fire TV Stick – Tata Sky Edition and Tata Sky Binge + Android powered set-top box.

Tata Sky Binge includes OTT platforms such as Disney + Hotstar Premium, Zee5, Sun Nxt, Hungama Play, Eros Now, ShemarooMe, Voot Select and Voot Kids. A three-month Amazon Prime Video subscription is also available.
