Sony PlayStation 5 comes with Netflix, Prime Video, and more at launch

Sony PlayStation 5 will support popular streaming apps at launch, the company announced in a blog post. These streaming apps include Apple TV, Netflix, Disney +, and more. The PlayStation 5 will not only be a game console, but also an entertainment center. Just like the PlayStation 4 and its support for streaming apps, the next generation console offers a similar experience, albeit in a streamlined way. In addition, the Media Remote enables users to navigate and control the entertainment experience.

Global Parent Development and Relations Director Phil Rosenberg shared through a blog entry These popular streaming apps will be available on PlayStation 5 upon launch. These apps include Apple TV, Disney +, Netflix, Spotify, Twitch, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, MyCanal, Peacock, and more. More apps will be added to the list in the future.

Apps like Twitch and YouTube will be more deeply integrated into the PS5. Users can view or stream their gameplay on Twitch, as well as chat live with other players across multiple communities on Twitch right from the console. With YouTube, users can broadcast and share their gameplay moments directly on their YouTube channel.

These streaming services are available in the dedicated media section on the console home page. As can be seen in the recently released walkthrough for the user interface, there are two main tabs on the home page, one for games and one for media, so players can quickly switch between the two.

The blog adds that users don’t need to download these entertainment apps from the PS Store as they did before. The new Control Center also makes it easier to control music.

With the Media Remote for the PS5, users can easily navigate the console and turn it on too. The remote control has integrated play / pause buttons, fast forward and rewind, volume control and power options. There are dedicated buttons for Netflix, YouTube, Spotify, and Disney +.

The PlayStation 5 will be released next month, with select regions having access to the console on November 10 and the others on November 19. However, the start date for India is unclear.
