SmartThings Find can help you find your lost Galaxy devices

Samsung announced SmartThings Find to find Galaxy devices like smartphones, tablets, smartwatches and earbuds. SmartThings Find will be an opt-in part of the SmartThings app, the update of which will be rolled out worldwide on devices with Android 8 or higher. SmartThings Find uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and Ultra-Broadband (UWB) technologies to find devices. The service can even be used when the missing Galaxy device is offline as long as the battery has enough battery to send Bluetooth and UWB signals.

Users have to register in the SmartThings appAfter that, they can find their Galaxy devices if they get lost. Samsung written down that even a single earbud can be found using the SmartThings Find service.

SmartThings Find can even be used when the Galaxy smartphone, tablet, smartwatch or earbuds are offline. Samsung stated that the device generates a Bluetooth Low Energy signal that can be picked up by other devices once it has been offline for 30 minutes. If you report your device as lost through SmartThings Find, any nearby Galaxy smartphone or tablet that has chosen to search for misplaced devices can inform the Samsung server of its location, thereby notifying you.

Six million users in Korea, the UK and the US have tested the service through a two-month early access program, according to Samsung. “SmartThings Find leverages the latest BLE and UWB technology and makes your life less stressful looking for misplaced Galaxy devices,” said Jaeyeon Jung, vice president and head of the SmartThings mobile communications team at Samsung Electronics Statement. “With the added benefit of using AR6 in conjunction with maps and sounds to guide you back to your devices, SmartThings Find is a simple and visual solution that makes it easy to find your favorite devices.

Start-up for home automation SmartThings has been a subsidiary of Samsung since 2014. It wirelessly connects to a number of smart devices and enables them to collaborate. The SmartThings mobile app also works with voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant.

If you lose a Galaxy device, you can open SmartThings Find on the smartphone or tablet and select the device you want to find. Samsung says that you are showing the exact location of your device on a map. When you’re near the device, you can either let it ring or search using the AR-based Find Nearby feature, which shows color graphics that become more intense as you get closer to the device.

Samsung has announced that it will expand these features to tag tracking starting early next year to make it easier for users to find non-Galaxy items. According to the South Korean tech giant, all SmartThings user data is encrypted and the location of the device is not disclosed to anyone but its owner.

Apple and Google offer similar services that help users find their devices more easily.
