Samsung Exynos 1080 processor launched with support for 5G and 144 Hz refresh rate

The Samsung Exynos 1080 mobile processor was presented as a process-based 5 nm EUV chip with 5G support. It is an octa-core processor with a 4 + 3 + 1 core configuration that supports high refresh rate displays. The Exynos 1080 SoC supports up to 200 megapixel camera sensors. It is currently unclear which smartphone will hit the market with this new SoC. As a 5 nm processor, it is connected to the A14 from Apple and the Kirin 9000 from Huawei, but it is a medium-range SoC.

Samsung Exynos 1080 specifications

The octahedron Exynos 1080 from Samsung follows the 4 + 3 + 1 core configuration, the four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz and a Cortex-A78 core clocked at 2.8 GHz Core includes. The processor also includes the Mali-G78 MP10 GPU for processing graphics.

The SoC contains an integrated neural processing unit (NPU) and a digital signal processor (DSP) that enable the Exynos 1080 to perform 5.7 trillion operations per second. It also provides support for faster and safer AI on the device.

For connectivity, Exynos 1080 supports 5G NR Sub-6GHz, 5G NR mmWave, LTE, Wi-Fi (802.11ax), Bluetooth 5.2 and FM radio. You also get the standard support for GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou and Galileo. In terms of storage and storage, Exynos 1080 supports LPDDR5 and LPDDR4x RAM, as well as UFS 3.1 storage.

To support the display, the new SoC is compatible with HDR10 + and can process WQHD displays with a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz. It also supports Full HD displays with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz. Exynos 1080 can also handle a single camera setup with up to 200 megapixel sensors and a dual camera setup with 32 megapixel sensors. It is able to process 4K video with HEfC (H.265) / H.264 / VP8 / VP9 (10 bit only with HEVC and VP9) at 60 fps.

Samsung hasn’t announced which phone will debut with Exynos 1080, but it was reported earlier this month that the Galaxy S21 series won’t have the new mobile processor. Another recent report suggests that the upcoming Vivo X60 and Vivo X60 Pro smartphones will run on the Exynos 1080.
