Redmi K40 series with Snapdragon 888 SoC for more than 1 phone

The Redmi K40 series will be equipped with more than one smartphone variant equipped with the Snapdragon 888 SoC that a Xiaomi manager tipped. The development was shared by Redmi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas on Weibo, but without clearly naming the Redmi K40 series. The Redmi K40 was teased by the company for launch in February with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. The phone may be next to another Redmi K40 series phone running on the same SoC. The exact date for the launch of the Redmi K40 series has not yet been announced.

Wang Teng Thomas, Redmi Product Director, in a response to Lu Weibing, Redmi General Manager post Office on Weibo, said that more than one phone comes with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Weibing’s original post did not include any details about the upcoming series, but did include the hashtag ‘K40’, suggesting that Thomas was also speaking on a Redmi K40 series phone. None of the posts say otherwise about the Redmi K40 series.

Last week, Weibing confirmed that the Redmi K40 will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC and will be released next month. It has also been announced that the phone will start at 2,999 CNY (around Rs 34,000), making it one of the most affordable phones to be powered by Snapdragon 888.

The Redmi K40 has been in the news for quite some time and has been the subject of many rumors, leaks, and listings on certification websites. The phone is said to support 33W fast charging. Last month, the Redmi K40 was outfitted with a selfie camera hole punch instead of a popup camera design.

Alleged live images of the Redmi K40 were also recently shared by a tipper on Weibo, who has a front panel with a hole punch cutout, a quad rear camera setup, and a USB Type-C port alongside a 3.5mm headphone jack on the showed bottom.

A leak from June 2020 indicated that the Redmi K40 could be operated with the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC, which could still be the case for one or more variants of the series.

So far, Xiaomi has not confirmed the specifications of the Redmi K40, with the exception of its SoC, but details will most likely be revealed in the coming weeks as we near the launch in February.
