Realme ‘Race’ as well as Red Magic 6, Oppo Find X3, Nubia Z and ZTE Axon 30 will be presented for the first time in the first quarter of 2021 with the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. The smartphone makers announced their launch plans shortly after Qualcomm unveiled the latest Snapdragon chipset as the new flagship 5G mobile platform. In addition to Realme, Oppo and ZTE, Xiaomi has also confirmed its plans to launch the Snapdragon 888-powered Mi 11 “very soon” on the market. The exact start dates of the new smartphones have not yet been determined.
Following the announcement of the Snapdragon 888 SoC at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 on Tuesday, Realme announced its new flagship smartphone, codenamed “Race”. In addition to improved 5G connectivity, the smartphone should offer an improved gaming, video and communication experience. Madhav Sheth, Vice President and CEO of Realme, also suggested plans for India’s start for the Realme Race.
“We are proud to be among the first smartphone manufacturers to feature the Snapdragon 888 chipset. With this milestone we reaffirm our commitment to bring more 5G devices to India by 2021, ”he said.
Official details of the Realme Race will be announced soon. The phone was however leaked from GSMArena on Tuesday with model number RMX2202. It is said to have 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage and run on Android 11 with Realme UI 2.0. A picture allegedly showing the phone was also posted online, suggesting a circular rear view camera.
Red Magic 6
The Nubia sub-brand Red Magic is aimed specifically at mobile gamers and plans to introduce the Red Magic 6 series with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Starting details for the Red Magic 6 series were revealed by Nubia President Ni Fei on Weibo. The new series is said to be the first gaming phone to be equipped with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. In addition, it will likely include an upgrade to the Red Magic 5G, which was launched this March.
Oppo Find X3
In addition to the Realme ‘Race’ and Red Magic 6, Oppo also plans to jump on the bandwagon in the first quarter of 2021 and launch its flagship with a Snapdragon 888 drive Find the X series as one of the first 5G smartphone series, equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset.
“We are confident that the next Find X-Series will provide users around the world with an exceptional all-round experience,” said Alen Wu, Oppo vice president and president of global sales.
Earlier this month, Oppo confirmed that the Find X3 series will be available with system-wide 10-bit color support. This will come from a new full color color management system that supports the high efficiency image format (HEIF) and the full DCI-P3 color gamut.
Nubia too announced on Weibo that it will launch its new Nubia Z series with the Snapdragon 888 SoC. The company already has a few models in its existing Nubia Z series. However, the new phones in the series are likely to take advantage of the faster performance of the next-generation Snapdragon chipset.
ZTE Axon 30
Nubia parent company ZTE has also announced its plans to add the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC to its new flagship smartphone line Calls the ZTE Axon 30. The new series is said to offer an improved picture experience that is supported by the new Qualcomm Spectra ISP, which can take photos and videos at up to 2.7 gigapixels per second.
Other upcoming Snapdragon 888 smartphones
Apart from the above models, the Mi 11 is the next Xiaomi flagship to be based on the Snapdragon 888 SoC. Xiaomi Co-Founder and CEO Lei Jun announced the launch of the new Mi Series phone during a virtual keynote during Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 on Tuesday.
OnePlus is also launching its new flagship phone with Snapdragon 888 in the first half of next year, announced design director Hope Liu Video posted during the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit microsite.
“We believe the technological innovation of it [Snapdragon 888] The flagship platform for 5G, games, cameras and other aspects will help OnePlus launch a high-end flagship in the first half of next year, ”said Liu.
The smartphone is likely none other than the OnePlus 9, which has been part of the rumor mill for some time. It is expected to come alongside the OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9E.
Vivo is also expected to have a new flagship in the factories, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. It could be the rumored Vivo X60 Pro, which is said to be equipped with a curved display and runs on Android 11 with OriginOS on top.
A listing on Geekbench popped up with a model number Vivo V2056A suggests a Vivo phone based on the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It had a motherboard code name of “lahaina” which is believed to be associated with the new chipset. In addition, the phone is likely to be either the Vivo X60 Pro or a model from the iQoo 7 series written down by 91Mobiles. The Vivo phone’s Geekbench list suggested 12GB of RAM and Android 11 support.
