PlayStation 5 launches in India on February 2nd with pre-orders for the PS5 starting January 12th at 12 noon IST. Sony shared the development on Twitter through its PlayStation India account and said that pre-orders will be open until supplies last. The console was originally launched on November 12, 2020 in select regions and November 19, 2020 in the rest of the world (excluding India). It was supposed to be launched in India “by the end of 2020” but it clearly did not due to a lack of inventory. BIS certification and a copyright issue are some of the explanations that have been rumored. Now the console is finally on its way to the Indian market. According to a new report, 3.4 million units of the PS5 were sold in the first month, making it the tallest of any PlayStation console.

Launch, price, pre-order of PlayStation 5 India

Sony has announced on Twitter that the PS5 will be launched in India on February 2nd. Pre-orders will start at 12 noon on January 12th and will be available at Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Games The Shop, Shop at Sony Center, Vijay Sales, and select authorized resellers.

The company announced Indian prices before launch. The Digital Edition of the PS5 costs Rs. 39,990 and the Standard Edition with a hard disk drive costs Rs. 49,990.

Sony launched the PS5 on November 12th and November 19th for the rest of the world in the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and other regions. Although India was part of the original list of countries for launch on November 19th, the date has been edited from the official website and the console did not see the light of day in the country.

World record sales for PS5

According to a report Gematsu shipped 3.4 million PlayStation 5 units in the first four weeks. This makes it the best-selling PlayStation console of all time. The console was launched in multiple regions on November 12th, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and other countries. Demand has been high since Sony opened pre-orders. For regions where it was on sale like North America and Europe, it was quite difficult for people to place an order for the console as Sony couldn’t replenish the shelves (both virtual and physical) to meet demand satisfy, and the console was mostly out of stock.

The report added that Sony is expected to roll out more PlayStation 5 devices to the Asian markets after January 2021. Hopefully the situation in terms of pre-orders and availability will improve in India and not be as chaotic as other regions. Sony also had he apologized for the level of pre-orders in countries where the console originally had a launch date and had promised to provide more units to meet demand.

Despite this shortcoming, the company was able to set a new sales record for its PlayStation console. According to the report, Sony is expected to ship 16.8-18 million PS5 units in 2021 when Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and backend service firms can provide additional capacity support. The 7nm CPU of the PS5 is manufactured by AMD. The company has reportedly secured the required components from TSMC to enable manufacturing partners to increase console performance.
