OnePlus Watch With Wear OS may be in the works, suggests Pete Lau

OnePlus Watch has been part of the rumor mill for quite some time. While a recent rumor suggests an indefinite delay in the launch plans for the first-generation OnePlus watch, co-founder and CEO Pete Lau has suggested in a media roundtable that OnePlus should continue to work with Google to bring its Wear OS-powered smartwatch. The executive confirmed that the development of a smartwatch was underway. He emphasized that the company is working with Google to make improvements to Wear OS, including a better interoperability experience. This work could be just what large manufacturers generally do before they launch their first hardware.

As quoted According to Lau, OnePlus was tapping to improve connectivity between the Wear OS ecosystem, Android TV, and Android smartphones, and improve device interoperability between the devices.

“This has also been rated very positively by Google. So this is the direction we want to go,” he said.

Interestingly, Lau didn’t mention any details about OnePlus’ plans for its smartwatch. However, his comments suggest that the company’s ongoing collaboration with Google could lead to the launch of the new device in the coming future.

OnePlus provided a clarification on 9to5Google in the input report, explaining that the company’s smartwatch has not been confirmed to be running Wear OS. Lau didn’t directly link working on Wear OS with Google to developing a smartwatch, but it does seem entirely possible that the OnePlus Watch will run Wear OS from Google.

In October, OnePlus tweeted a cryptic teaser on its official Twitter account saying: “The OnePlus ecosystem is becoming increasingly important. It’s just a matter of time. ”The teaser also included an image with a circular dial. This was a clear indication of the company’s expected launch of the smartwatch on certification portals like the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) in Singapore.

The OnePlus Watch should be launched along with the OnePlus 8T earlier this year. However, it didn’t debut alongside the latest flagship phone. Tipster Max Jambor even recently claimed the OnePlus Watch launch plans were delayed indefinitely.
