More affordable GeForce RTX 3060 desktop GPU launched with ray tracing

With the GeForce RTX 3060, Nvidia has launched its cheapest desktop GPU with ray tracing on the market. The GeForce RTX 3060, with an official price of $ 329 (about Rs.28,700 before tax), is aimed at gamers who want to upgrade from older GeForce GTX series products to get their first taste of ray tracing effects. The xx60 series has traditionally sold well for Nvidia, with the company pointing out that the GeForce GTX 1060 is still the single most popular model in the Steam Hardware Survey. The company expects to sell millions of GeForce RTX 3060 GPUs, which are relatively cheaper than the existing GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, 3070, 3080, and 3090.

Official pricing in India is not yet known, but it could be complicated as there doesn’t appear to be an official Nvidia Founders Edition graphics card. Nvidia partner brands like Asus, Zotac, Gigabyte, MSI, Innovision 3D, Colorful, Palit, PNY, EVGA and Gainward will sell GeForce RTX 3060 cards with custom designs and coolers and set their own prices. Supply restrictions could also drive prices higher – GeForce RTX 30-series cards are hard to find and have continued to sell at high markups since their introduction in India. Cards will go on sale at the end of February.

Compared to the popular GeForce GTX 1060, the new GeForce RTX 3060 can deliver twice the raster performance and ten times the ray tracing performance, according to Nvidia. Gamers can expect to play brand new titles like Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing enabled at 60 fps. This new GPU uses the same Amp architecture as its more powerful siblings, with next-generation RT and Tensor cores for ray tracing and AI acceleration, including upscaling DLSS resolution.

The GeForce RTX 3060 has 12 GB of GDDR6 memory on a 192-bit bus. Oddly enough, this is a larger amount than even the 10 GB of the GeForce RTX 3080, despite the fact that it has less memory bandwidth overall. A new feature is the scalable BAR (Base Address Register), which allows modern CPUs to access the entire GPU frame buffer, which may improve performance in games. The software features of the GeForce RTX 30 series include Nvidia Reflex and Nvidia Broadcast for professional gamers and streamers.
