Microsoft is working on the One Outlook app for cross-platform access: Report

Microsoft has reportedly been working on a new One Outlook app that allows cross-platform access across Windows, Mac, and the web. The One Outlook app, codenamed Monarch, is currently in the early stages of development, according to a report. The new app is set to replace Microsoft’s integrated mail and calendar apps under Windows 10 in the coming year. The effort is part of Microsoft’s One Outlook vision that the company talked about over the past year.

Monarch is the ultimate goal of Microsoft’s One Outlook vision. The Redmond-based company aims to deploy a single Outlook client that works on platforms like Windows, Mac, and the web. According to a report by Windows CentralOne Outlook will not work without a full internal Microsoft account and will replace desktop versions (Win32 and Universal Windows Platform) of Outlook, Outlook on the web and the macOS desktop client. Monarch is expected to deploy Outlook as a single product and work with the same user experience whether it is Windows or Mac.

Windows Central also reported that the app had native operating system integrations, as well as support for notifications, share targets, offline storage, and more.

The full web version of the new Outlook is hosted online by Microsoft. The preview of the new Monarch client doesn’t begin until the end of this year. Microsoft plans to replace the Mail and Calendar app on Windows 10 in 2022.

If you’re curious what this new experience will look like, you can install that Outlook Web App through your browser. While not all integrations designed for Monarch are currently available, this is an overview of the type of experience you might get.
