Microsoft is increasing the size limit for uploading files to OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint

Microsoft is increasing the size limit for upload files for OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint from 100 GB to 250 GB. The company announced that support for uploading files with a file size of 250GB will begin later this month and that it is expected to be generally available by the end of the first quarter of 2021. The change is aimed at those who need to share large files or records from home while at work. Those who use OneDrive for personal use can also take advantage of the large file limit by uploading video albums, zip files with large PC games, and more.

announcement Microsoft said it would increase the new file size limit to 250 GB by optimizing storage for upload performance. Each file is split into blocks and each piece is encrypted with a unique key. Also, all files are backed up in Azure Storage, according to Microsoft.

Users can share large files, which can contain 8K or 4K videos, 3D models, large amounts of scientific data, research projects, and more, on OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint.

While the change will prove more useful to remote professions due to the coronavirus pandemic, OneDrive users can also use the 250GB upload size limit to upload large photos, video collections, zip files, and more. Microsoft assured users that only the changes they make to their employees will be synced, reducing the amount of time required for syncing.

In the meantime, Microsoft recently started testing a message and interests widget in the system tray for Windows 10. The widget displays the weather, news headlines, stock market information and more. It’s customizable. The new widget in the system tray is currently being rolled out to Windows Insider members with build 21286 in the development channel. It is available to members in Australia, Canada, the UK, India, and the US.
