Mi TV 5 Pro with QLED screen teased for launch in India

Xiaomi could prepare to launch the Mi TV 5 series in India, which consists of the Mi TV 5 and the Mi TV 5 Pro. This suggests a new teaser from the company. New social media posts and emails Xiaomi sends to media companies tease an upcoming product launch titled “Quantum Leaps Ahead”. The use of the word quantum dots is the Mi TV 5 Pro, which has a QLED (Ultra-HD Quantum Dot LED) screen and is available in three sizes: 55 inches, 65 inches and 75 inches.

Although the Teaser doesn’t reveal much, the single operative word seems to be the biggest clue that this is the Mi TV 5 Pro. The teaser shows an animation of a solar eclipse lifting with bright sunlight, indicating the higher peak brightness and colors that quantum dot LED screens can typically achieve. Although no date has been given for the launch, the notices suggest that the launch could be before the end of 2020.

Mi TV 5, Mi TV 5 Pro price and specifications

The Mi TV 5 and Mi TV 5 Pro were launched in China in November 2019 and could have been launched in India earlier this year had it not been for the global pandemic and subsequent lockdowns in the country. The TV series is available in sizes 55 inches, 65 inches and 75 inches for both the regular Mi TV 5 and the Pro version. All televisions have Ultra HD screens (3840 x 2160 pixels). The Mi TV 5 starts at 2,999 CNY (approx. 33,800 Rs.), While the Mi TV 5 Pro retails from 3,699 CNY (approx. 41,700 Rs.).

If started in India, the TVs would likely retail at slightly higher prices and could start at Rs. 39,999 and Rs. 49,999 for the Mi TV 5 and the Mi TV 5 Pro, respectively. The main difference between the Mi TV 5 and Mi TV 5 Pro is that the latter has a QLED screen compared to the normal LED screen of the former. There will likely be HDR support on both TVs as well, and the models launched in India could run on Android TV with the additional PatchWall launcher.

While the Mi TV 5 has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, the Mi TV 5 Pro has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. This is significantly higher than what is offered on most premium smart TVs in India. These will be the premium televisions that Xiaomi launched in India and they will be positioned significantly higher than the Mi TV 4X series, which is currently Xiaomi’s most expensive TV series in the country.
