LG’s upcoming experimental smartphone could be called the LG Rollable

LG Rollable could be the name of the company’s upcoming experimental rollable smartphone. LG has registered a trademark for the name with the EUIPO (Office for Intellectual Property of the European Union). Of course, a brand doesn’t mean the company uses that for the name. It may just want to protect the term so other brands can’t use it to describe their phones. After the LG Wing, the smartphone is expected to be the second as part of LG’s “Explorer Project” and, according to a current report, will be launched in March 2021. The brand doesn’t reveal much more, but it may give us the name of the phone to come.

The application was filed on November 2nd by Mitscherlich, a company from Germany that has also filed business on behalf of LG in the past. The name LG chose seems pretty simple and self-explanatory. The application mentions that LG Rollable is a smartphone but doesn’t provide any further details. The brand listing was first discovered by LetsGoDigital

A trademark has been registered with the EUIPO for LG Rollable

Earlier this week, a render of the smartphone had surfaced showing a rollable display that can be expanded from either side of the phone. The render was based on a patent LG had filed for a phone with a flexible display that could be rolled into its case. The patent was filed with the USPO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) in August last year.

This is the second smartphone under LG’s experimental “Explorer Project”. The first, LG Wing, is a dual-screen smartphone with a swiveling main display that was launched in September. LG Rollable is expected to hit the market in March 2021.

The rollable smartphone was named Project B and, according to a report, should come onto the market in June 2021, according to the company. In the same report, company sources had indicated that developing rollable phones was relatively less complicated than foldable phones.
