Reliance Jio saw average download speeds drop by 1.5Mbps in October, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). However, the Mumbai-based telecommunications company was able to maintain its lead in 4G download speeds of up to 17.8 Mbps. This was over 95 percent faster than the average 9.1 Mbps download speed of Idea, which came second in the race. In terms of upload speed, Jio showed no magic and resulted in flat growth. It is noteworthy that despite their merger last year, TRAI still counts Vodafone and Idea as separate telecommunications companies on its MySpeed portal.
The latest data available on TRAI’s MySpeed portal shows that Jio continued its leadership position in 4G download speeds in October with an average download speed of 17.8 Mbps. However, this was less than the 19.1 Mbps speed recorded in September.
After Jio, Idea kept its second position with 9.1 Mbit / s. This was an increase of 0.5 Mbit / s compared to the download speed of 8.6 Mbit / s determined by the MySpeed portal in September.
The TRAI data shows that Vodafone took third place with an average download speed of 8.8 Mbit / s compared to the previously recorded 7.9 Mbit / s. Airtel, on the other hand, maintained the average download speed of 7.5 Mbit / s for two months.
In terms of upload speeds, the data available on the MySpeed portal shows that Vodafone maintained its top position with a speed of 6.5 Mbit / s recorded in October. This was unchanged from the data released for September.
After Vodafone, Idea came in second with an average upload speed of 5.9 Mbit / s. This was less than the speed of 6.4 Mbit / s measured in the previous month.
However, Airtel showed some improvements in upload speeds, increasing from 0.3Mbps to 3.8Mbps. In contrast, Jio stayed the same with a recorded speed of 3.5Mbps last month.
The TRAI data is based on the download and upload speeds recorded monthly via the MySpeed app.
