Instagram is testing new design to display stories on desktop

Instagram is testing a new design for displaying stories on the desktop. In the new look, Instagram stories are likely to be displayed in a carousel rather than the current single-tile format that takes up the entire page. A company spokesman confirmed to a publication that tests of the new function are currently being carried out. The report suggests that the navigation stay the same – users have to manually click through the stories or they can have them play one at a time automatically. It is not yet clear if and when the new design will be available to more users.

According to a report An Instagram spokesperson from Engadget confirmed that a new design for stories is being tested. According to the spokesman, the new look appeared to a “small group” of Instagram users last month. Gadgets 360 reached out to Instagram for further clarification. This report will be updated as soon as we hear something.

The new design for Instagram Stories makes it easier for you to keep track of where you are in the Stories queue. So far, if you’ve been reviewing a story on Instagram on desktop, it’ll take up the entire screen. There’s no way to swipe to the next person’s story, even though there are navigation buttons.

If this change is made available to a wider audience, it will create a cleaner desktop experience for Instagram and can be especially beneficial for those who regularly use the desktop for Instagram. Users can view the stories of the last people and the next in a queue, and a single story doesn’t take up the entire screen.

If Facebook decides to bring the new Instagram functionality to a wider audience, more users will likely get the new design for Stories on the desktop before it officially launches.
