Immediate checkmateis a people search finder that aggregates data from public records. The service is easy to use and offers a wide range of information, including contact details and criminal records. The results are not immediately available and the service prompts you with lots of questions and warnings before submitting a report, which can be annoying.
In our Instant Checkmate review, we will help you decide whether this is the best tool for doing a background check or finding people.
Plans and Pricing
Instant Checkmate only offers subscriptions for unlimited reports. One month is $ 34.78, or you can sign up for 27 months for $ 27.82 per month. There is no way to buy a report for a single person.
Instant Checkmate lets you search for someone by name, city, and state. There is also a reverse phone lookup feature but it is difficult to find on the Instant Checkmate website. When you do a search, you’ll see a list of potential matches and you can get a detailed report for each person.
The service only reviews public records, so there is no information available through Instant Checkmate that you cannot get elsewhere. However, the platform offers a wide network and includes details on real estate, vehicles, previous addresses, family members, marriages and bankruptcies in its reports. The tool also shows you whether the person you are looking for is a registered sex offender, whether they have a gun license, or whether they have criminal, arrest or traffic data.
It is important to note that Instant Checkmate does not comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. As a result, you cannot legally use this service to perform a background check on work or rental applications.
Interface and in use
Using Instant Checkmate was nowhere near as easy as we would have liked. Getting started on a search is easy – just type whatever information you know about your topic into the search bar on the company’s home page. You will be prompted with several popups asking for details about the person you are looking for in order to refine your results.
However, after these popups there will be more popups. These warn you of the graphic details you may discover in an Instant Checkmate report in a way that is exaggerated and annoying. It might be okay if there was just a warning, but we encountered more than five such popups before we could ultimately display a report.
It’s also worth noting that in the middle of all that pop-ups clicking, Instant Checkmate essentially stopped working. The report never loaded and we had to start the process over. (It worked the second time.)
Things will get better once you finally get on a report. We found that the information we were reviewing was largely correct, although there were occasional inaccuracies regarding previous addresses and licenses. Criminal records are given a likelihood rating, which was a nice reminder that Instant Checkmate is not guaranteed to be accurate.
Instant Checkmate offers phone and email support from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday. If you’re having trouble signing up for the service or finding a report, you can contact online help for tutorial videos and answers to frequently asked questions. One thing we liked is that it’s easy to cancel your Instant Checkmate subscription at any time.
It’s also worth noting that Instant Checkmate makes it easy to remove yourself from its search database. Most of the other search tools hide this option, but it’s right in the footer of the Instant Checkmate website. As a rule, your data will be removed within two days of submitting an opt-out request.
The Instant Checkmate website is secured with Norton Symantec and all payment information is transmitted using 256-bit encryption. Since all of the data on the website is available through public records, there is relatively little emphasis on keeping reports secure.
Instant Checkmate is one of the most reliable people search tools available. However, it’s a bit pricey when compared to competitors like US Search. US search costs just $ 19.86 per month for unlimited reports. We recommend Instant Checkmate if you can afford it as we’ve found the information to be much more accurate than what you get with US search.
If you need a background check under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, consider a service like GoodHire or Checkr. Both platforms are considerably more expensive and are charged per search. However, the data can be used to make decisions about employment and rental applications.
Immediate checkmate is an affordable person finder that provides relatively accurate information. One of the best things about this service is that it gives you a huge amount of data compared to similar search tools. Running a search with Instant Checkmate can be frustrating as you have to click through more than a dozen popups before you can see the final report. However, if you can overlook this error, Instant Checkmate is relatively easy to use.
