Google Pixel Phones receive January 2021 update with fixes, security patch

Google Pixel phones are getting the January Pixel feature update which will fix some issues with the Pixel 5 and other Pixel phones. The Android security patch has also been updated for Pixel 3 and above. Google announced that the update has already been rolled out and will gradually reach users depending on the carrier and handset. The fixes that ship with the January update include partial optimizations for the system noise issue, which some Pixel 5 phone users had complained about being too loud.

The Feature update in January contains fixes for some issues that Google Pixel phone users have faced. While this update is available to Pixel 3 users and beyond, Google had reportedly announced that the Pixel 2 phones will also receive one final update. According to the support page for Pixel phones, Google has optimized and improved the system sound volume for the Pixel 5. Pixel 5 users have been around for quite a while complain The system sounds like the camera shutter and screenshot are too loud even with the phone volume turned down.

Pixel 4a 5G users will get a solution for speaker noise they encountered in certain scenarios. Pixel 5, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a, and 5G users will receive automatic brightness enhancements in certain lighting conditions. All Pixel phones (Pixel 3 and above) are given a solution to an issue that caused certain apps to randomly restart. You also get an improved automatic rotation response and a solution to an issue that prevented users from making calls to some Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) networks.

The update also brings Security patch January 2021 For Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a, 5G and Pixel 5. It contains patches for improved security of frameworks, systems and media frameworks. The vulnerabilities range from medium to critical severity, with the most serious vulnerability being the risk of permanent remote denial of service.

Google announced that this over-the-air (OTA) update will be rolled out gradually in January depending on the carrier and handset. This means that not all Pixel phone users will get the update right away.
