Google Docs, Apps for Apps Get new icons as part of the workspace makeover

Google Workspace is now introducing new icons for documents and sheets. This is part of a revision announced earlier this month. The new icons are now full-page-shaped with a white background. The new design comes with version 1.20.422.01. Google renamed G Suite to Google Workspace to make it a central location for all productivity apps.

Updated icons have already been introduced for Google Meet, Google Chat, and Gmail apps. The design update was first discovered by 9to5Google. As part of the change, the ear tag in the upper right corner is now displayed darker. On closer inspection you will notice that the document icon contains one line of text / line less and the sheet icon two cells less than in the previous versions. In addition, the icons now have a full page shape with a white background. The publication states: “The apps have adopted the new design with version 1.20.422.01.”

As already mentioned, the update is part of Google’s strategy to offer a new user experience. It has been renamed Google Workspace in G Suite and brings tools like chat, email, voice and video calling into one place. Google had previously announced that users could create a document and collaborate with guests in a chat room. The company will also introduce meet-in-picture for docs, sheets and slides. Google Workspace has already been launched for business customers and will be available to other consumers in the coming months.
