Google allows users to turn off smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet

Gmail will get two new settings to turn off data usage that will allow Google to offer smart features and personalization experiences. With these new settings, you can turn off smart features like automatically sorting emails under Primary, Social, and Promotions, or smart email composing and even summary cards that appear over emails . Users can also turn off personalization features like the Google Assistant, reminding you of your next bill payment, or even bundling your travel routes together.

On your BlogGoogle has confirmed that these two new settings will be available in Gmail in the coming weeks. With these new settings, you can control whether your data can be used in Gmail, Meet, and Chat to offer “smart features” in these and other Google products. By disabling these settings, Google will be prevented from using your data to provide you with this personal experience. These options can be activated / deactivated at any time in the Gmail settings.

If you choose to have smart features in Gmail, Chat, and Meet not use your data, you will not receive automatic email categorization in promotional, social, and primary inboxes. You Cannot Use Smart Compose While typing an email, summary maps for purchases, travel reservations, and package tracking are not displayed, nor is a calendar event creation based on dates and other details in emails.

If you don’t personalize other Google products with your Gmail, Chat, and Meet data, the Google Assistant won’t be able to offer you billing reminders, Google Maps won’t offer restaurant reservations, and Google Pay won’t show you loyalty cards and tickets.

Google explains on their blog, “Smart features rely on your data to save time and provide a more helpful experience. We want you to use them because you value them, not because they’re there are.” The tech giant says these new settings will be enabled for an individual Gmail user and even a Google Workspace administrator.
