Fortnite next-gen version for PS5, Xbox Series X / S will be available at launch

Fortnite developer Epic has announced a “next-gen version” of the game for the upcoming PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Epic says it has developed new native builds for the three consoles, and not just a streamlined build of the last generation. Fortnite players can continue their progression and the next generation version will be available for download from Day 1, which is next week when the new consoles are released. In addition, from November 4th, Epic is offering all players a free Throwback Ax Pickaxe.

Epic posted on his website that the developers have prepared a next-generation version of Fortnite for the upcoming next-generation consoles, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S.

The updated version will be available for download from day 1. This is a new native build for the consoles to take advantage of the power of the new systems, and not just a streamlined build of the last generation. The PlayStation 5 will be released on November 12th and the Xbox series consoles on November 10th.

On the PlayStation 5, players from day 1 can play Fortnite at 4K 60fps and experience dynamic images such as grass and trees that react to explosions, brand new storm and cloud effects and improved liquid simulations for smoke and liquid. In addition, PS5 players can select a game mode, be it Solo, Duos or Squads, right on the home screen. Epic has also considered the new and improved feel of the DualSense controller for the PS5. The new version of Fortnite offers haptic trigger feedback for ranged weapons on the DualSense controller as well as different vibrations for the different weapons.

Fortnite on Xbox Series X also runs at 4K 60fps and players experience the same dynamic graphics as on the PS5. Xbox Series S, the toned-down version of the Series X, will run the game at 1080p 60fps and support most of the visual enhancements that will be available on the other two more powerful consoles.

Loading times have been reduced on all three consoles so that players can get into the games faster. The loading times of the textures have also been improved. The split screen on Xbox Series X, Series S, and PS5 now supports 60 fps.

In addition, the developers state that players who have played Fortnite on last generation consoles will be able to continue their advances on the next generation consoles with all of their cosmetics. Players must download the Xbox Series X and Series S versions of the game. PS5 users can simply download Fortnite from the PlayStation Store and sign in with their Epic or PlayStation Network accounts.

Finally, starting November 4th, Epic is offering players a free Throwback Ax Pickaxe from Chapter 1 for all players, which will be available until January 15th next year.
