Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has publicly apologized for the game’s undesirable performance, especially on consoles. Marcin Iwinski, co-founder of CD Projekt, gave some insights into the development of the game and the company’s moto for “honest and direct communication” with players in a video published on YouTube on the Cyberpunk 2077 channel. Iwinski also shared a roadmap for upcoming patches, saying the first patch will be released within 10 days.
In the video titled “Cyberpunk 2077 – Our Commitment to Quality,” Iwinski admitted that the console version of Cyberpunk 2077 did not meet the desired quality standards. “I and the entire management team are very sorry about this, and this video is public [sic] to own that. Please do not blame any of our teams for what happened. You are all incredibly talented and hardworking, ”he said. The CD Projekt co-founder added that the final call for release of the game was accepted by him and the board members.
“Although, believe me, we never intended anything like this to happen. I assure you that we will do our best to regain your trust, ”said Iwinski.
He went on to explain how the team decided to make Cyberpunk 2077 “epic on the PC” first and then adapt it for consoles. He said things didn’t look very difficult at first, but the developers underestimated the challenges that would arise from the gap in the hardware of old-generation PCs and consoles. He also mentioned that their testing of the game didn’t reveal many of the issues the players were having during the game and that limitations related to COVID-19 forced the team to work from home, which made matters worse .
Iwinski shared the future of the game and announced that several patches of different sizes will be coming to the game on a regular basis. He said the first update – Patch 1.1 – will be released within 10 days, followed by another “major” update in the coming weeks. The free DLCs, which were originally planned to be released immediately after the launch, will now be released after Patch 1.2. The exact dates for these patches have not been disclosed.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X players who have played the game backward compatible can expect a free next-generation update in the second half of this year. The company shared more details about the status of the game on consoles in an FAQ website.
