Chris Evans to return as Captain America? “News for me,” says Evans

Chris Evans could return as Captain America in an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project (or two). According to a new report, Evans is currently in talks to reinstate the shield after pulling it back after the events of Avengers: Endgame. But don’t expect it to be a Captain America 4 or something. Evans will likely play a supporting role in someone else’s Marvel film, as did Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming and as Benedict Cumberbatch appeared in Thor: Ragnarok. And because the MCU now exists in both film and television, it could also be a Disney + series. Evans has brought up the report, pouring cold water over the hopes and dreams of fans.

In a tweet, Evans wrote “News to me” and added a shrug emoji at the end.

People who are familiar with the matter told Deadline Evans is expected to repeat his role as Captain America in some ways in the future of the MCU. A deal is said to be in the works but has not yet been finalized. Conversations began in recent months when Disney and Marvel asked Evans if he was open to a deadline return. Evans initially hesitated but eventually got on, the report added, and reached an agreement earlier this month. Those in power are working on how Evans will return to the MCU as there are more options than ever before. After Cap’s exit, Spider-Man: Far From Home introduced the MCU to the multiverse idea, which is to be explored further.

Besides Evans’ words, many will pause. Even after Cap handed the sign to Falcon (Anthony Mackie) in Endgame, Evans didn’t completely rule out an MCU return, as he said on the Graham Norton Show in May: “It’s not a heavy no, but it’s not either eager yes. I think Cap did such a tricky act to get through the landing and I think they did a really good job making him finish his trip. If you visit again it can’t be a money robbery. It can’t just be that the audience wants to be excited. What do we reveal? What do we add to the story? Many things should come together. “

These are good words to live by. Endgame gave Captain America and Iron Man (Downey Jr.) the perfect ending, ending their decades-long journey while absorbing each other’s views. Selfish Iron Man / Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the universe, and selfless Cap / Steve Rogers decided to have a life of his own as he stayed with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in the past. Steve and Peggy’s slow dancing at the end is a happy moment and tearful goodbye for one of Marvel’s most beloved characters. Evans’ potential return will mess all that up.
