When in the US, you have the advantage of having in your hands a new Ryzen-equipped Swift 3 that retails for $ 629.99. This AMD variant contains a 4th generation Ryzen 5 4500U, which is equipped with its own integrated graphics and delivers an impressive 2.30 GHz on each of its 6 cores. If you are in the UK the base models have a 10th gen Intel Core i3 and retail for £ 599This is the cheapest aluminum chassis ultrabook you will ever find.
The mid-range 10th generation Intel Core i5 flagship is currently retailing for $ 699 and has built-in Intel UHD graphics, 8 GB of RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. This is a nice bonus that will earn you a serious premium on the Swift 3 competitors. For comparison, a new MacBook Pro 13 with similar specs currently costs you around $ 1,499, while a new Dell XPS costs around $ 1,099. So here you are definitely getting some value.
The Acer Swift 3 has an all-metal case that tapers to a slightly wider point at the back. You’d think this means extra weight, but the new Swift only weighs 2.7 pounds, which is the same as the MacBook Air. It also looks quite discreet, which is a welcome addition to a consumer laptop that has such a wide range of uses.
Our recent review of the Acer Swift 3 gave this tiny ultrabook a glowing rating. We especially liked how easy it was and how much value it offers given its performance and top-notch build quality.
Depending on the retailer’s inventory, the Acer Swift 3 2019 offers a good and slightly cheaper alternative to the brand new laptops mentioned above.
While inexpensive, there are actually some minor differences to consider when looking at these models for 2019. First, the internals are a bit dated – with most processors being either 8th Gen Intel Core i3 and i5 or 3rd Gen Ryzen 3 and 5. You still get pretty generous amounts of RAM and solid-state drives, however – 8GB and 256GB, respectively, on the base models.
On the external models, the older models have a standard screen with an aspect ratio of 16: 9, while the slightly thinner frames on the newer models allow an aspect ratio of 3: 2 and an overall higher resolution. The 2019 Swift 3 still has a premium all-metal chassis, but it also has a smaller trackpad and a slightly older, narrower keyboard design.
So there are definitely some tradeoffs when it comes to buying an older model. However, depending on your location, you can sometimes pick these up for $ 200 / £ 200 cheaper than a 2020 model – even more if you get a clearance contract.

At the higher end of the price range are the amazing Dell XPS 13 and the latest HP Specter x360, which have specs similar to the Acer Swift 3 on their base models, but with much better screens. However, this comes with a much higher premium, as the price comparison below will confirm.
Closer to the Acer Swift 3’s price range are the Lenovo IdeaPad lineup and the latest Asus Zenbooks, which generally retail at roughly the same prices as the Swift 3. Depending on what’s on offer at Amazon and other major retailers, both laptops can be attractive alternatives to the Swift 3. However, pay attention to specs like processors and SSDs. If they’re 8th Gen or earlier Intel processors, it’s a dead giveaway that these aren’t the latest ultrabooks out there. Similarly, manufacturers are trying to save a bit of money by using a 256GB SSD instead of a 512GB SSD that you can get pretty cheaply with an Acer Swift 3.
