Asus ROG Phone will not be updated to Android 10

Asus ROG Phone will not receive Android 10, a moderator in the Asus ZenTalk community forum has confirmed. The phone was introduced at Computex in June 2018 and came with Android 8 Oreo. Then in November 2019 the Asus ROG Phone was upgraded to Android 9 Pie, but now it has been confirmed that the phone will not upgrade to Android 10. The ROG Phone was the company’s first game-centric phone and there have been two iterations since then, the Asus ROG Phone 3 is the newest.

On the Asus ZenTalk community forum, a user asked for a schedule when the Asus ROG phone will be updated to Android 10. A moderator then replied There are no plans to update the ZS600KL – model number for the Asus ROG Phone – to Android 10. The phone was introduced at Computex as the company’s first gaming phone back in June 2018. It came with Android 8 Oreo, and about a year and a half later, in November 2019, it was updated to Android 9 Pie.

The ROG phone is a flagship of the brand, and so it’s pretty surprising that Asus only rolled out one major Android operating system update to the phone powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC. The Poco F1, which also includes the same SoC, received a MIUI 12 update based on Android 10 last October, suggesting that the SoC isn’t the reason the update isn’t rolling over to the ROG phone.

Although this information came from a moderator on the community forum, Asus has not released a statement confirming this.

Asus ROG phone specifications

The phone has a 6-inch Full HD + AMOLED display (1080 x 2160 pixels) with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and a response time of 1 ms with HDR support. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and the Adreno 630 GPU. It has a dual rear camera and fingerprint scanner on the back. The Asus ROG Phone is supported by a 4,000 mAh battery and supports Quick Charge 3.0 on the bottom connector and Quick Charge 4.0 (30 W) on the connector on the side. It also comes with ultrasonic AirTrigger sensors for extra shoulder buttons that can be used while gaming.
