Apple’s new privacy policy explains the Nutrition Labels app.

Apple is rolling out its new privacy policy, and upcoming apps will have a label letting you know the data they’ve collected. The company announced this earlier this year and is now updating its published guidelines so that users are better informed about the decisions. However, some app makers say that this gives Apple an unfair advantage and that it does not protect users’ privacy but monopolizes them. Apple has also promised to manually review reports of apps not displaying their data collection properly, which could cause problems given the size of the App Store.

Apple is new Privacy page, updated Monday evening, used to only talk about app permissions, but now it’s clearly about user data and promises easy-to-read summaries. In a virtual briefing, Apple stated that this will be a clear, easy-to-use summary of the privacy practices reported by developers themselves.

“We are now starting to make this information available to users on all of our platforms. This reporting of privacy processes is part of the app submission for all users, including Apple for its own apps, ”said an Apple manager.

Unfair treatment?

However, not all developers agree. Last week, WhatsApp criticized the move, saying that requiring “privacy nutrition labels” on the App Store gives Messages, Apple’s pre-installed messaging app, an unfair advantage. Apple responded that all of its apps are also labeled on the web. However, since they are not in the App Store, a user will have to search for this information.

However, Apple also stressed that this process is still developing. “It creates a user-friendly system for all apps and will evolve over time,” said the Apple manager.

“This new privacy notice will be required for all apps in all of our app stores – including iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS – when developers submit updates or new versions,” the company added. “This reporting of privacy practices is part of the app submission process for all developers. All app developers worldwide, including Apple, must answer the same questions.”

The App Store label shows what kind of data an app collects and whether this is used to track the user and whether this data is linked to a person. If your information is used in one app and then linked to data from another app, website, or platform, Apple sees this as tracking. Data associated with a user is associated with your identity through your user account in the app, your device or other details.

Rely on self-reporting

In the future, developers can create and update the labels in the developer portal. There is a form that has all the information you can fill out. This form will then be displayed in the App Store. This information is not verified by Apple, said the CEO. Instead, they will be based on community reports.

“We’re going to be relying on self-reporting. This works well for a number of things, such as age ratings,” Apple said. “When we hear or understand that there may be inaccuracies, we will reach out to that developer to try to understand if there are inaccuracies.”

Gadgets 360 made it clear that this means Apple will not take automated action against a developer if there are user reports of data collection that are not listed on the nutrition label. One executive said, “We will speak to you personally” if inaccuracies arise.
