Apple may soon bring an alternative to Google search

Apple is reportedly accelerating the development of a search engine for Google Search. Although it has been speculated for some time that the Cupertino company is developing an alternative to Google search, the latest report is based on the advanced search capabilities of iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, which do not require Google assistance to answer user queries. Apple also posted job vacancies for search engineers earlier this year to indicate that a native search engine was evolving. In addition, the US antitrust lawsuit against Google threatens the payment Apple receives from Google every year for being the default search engine for iPhones and iPads.

According to a report According to the Financial Times, Apple’s move to provide standalone web search capabilities for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 is “growing evidence” that the Tim Cook-led team is ready to take over Google with its own search engine. With the latest software updates, users can search for web results by swiping down the search box on the home screen. This brings direct links to the websites rather than showing results from Google.

At the time of the announcement of the new iOS and iPadOS versions at its virtual WWDC 2020 conference in June, Apple placed little value on the newcomer. However, the website with the features of the new software updates has its own search area with some details.

“Searching the web is now easier than ever. Start typing and see relevant websites and web search suggestions above. This is a quick and easy way to launch Safari for a full web search, ”the company mentions on its website.

The FT also pointed out that Apple hired Google’s search director John Giannandrea in 2018. That hiring seemed like a step in enhancing the existing capabilities of the artificial intelligence company and its Siri assistant. However, Giannandrea has eight years of experience working on Google Search.

In addition to Giannandrea, Apple recently started hiring search engineers who could ultimately help build a strong competitor for the Google search engine.

Apple receives a massive $ 8 to $ 12 billion (roughly Rs 59,227 to 88,841) fee per year from Google if the search engine is kept by default on iOS devices. Just last week, the US Department of Justice sued the search giant for paying companies like Apple billions of dollars to maintain its dominance in web search.

This cartel case could result in Apple no longer receiving the money from Google. At the same time, Apple will need an alternative if the contract with Google for its search engine is rejected by the regulatory authorities.

Apple already has a web crawler called Applebot, which the company can use to regularly index a large number of websites. The company confirmed the existence of its bot in 2015 and Projects It is a solution to provide search results through Siri and Spotlight Suggestions. However, it could be used for a broader purpose – if necessary.

Apple hasn’t said anything publicly about creating a Google search alternative, however. Therefore, this report is currently still a matter of speculation.
