Amazon Fire TV Extend the hands-free functions via paired Alexa devices

Amazon Fire TV offers more hands-free capabilities with additional Alexa-enabled services. For example, with the new “Alexa, show me” command, you can check the weather, view the calendar, and view traffic on a specific route on your TV. You can also use voice commands to navigate through on-screen menus and make selections. These features will be available on Fire TV devices in the coming weeks. The new functions work with all paired Alexa devices with the exception of the Echo Show and Echo Spot.

A few years ago, Amazon introduced the ability to pair Alexa-enabled devices with Fire TVs, which you can use to perform functions such as open apps, play movies, search for content, and control playback. The company is now expanding this functionality with additional functions.

After pairing the Alexa device with your Fire TV, you can ask Alexa to show visual experiences on Fire TV in the new update by saying “Alexa, show me …” before the request. For example, you can say, “Alexa, show me the weather” or “Alexa, show me my shopping list”. Other visual experiences that Alexa can show with this feature are traffic, smart home cameras and calendars.

Voice commands can also be used to navigate and select content for hands-free calling. Once this feature is in place, you can ask Alexa to do things like search for genres, play a trailer, and open your watch list. You can return to the home screen by saying, “Alexa, go home.”

If you have a Fire TV Edition Smart TV, you can also use your Alexa device to turn your TV on and off, adjust the volume, and switch inputs.

Earlier this year, Amazon expanded Alexa voice control in Fire TV to include support for Netflix, YouTube, Jio Cinema, and other apps. This feature was previously limited to Prime Video only.
